Zandan Zhuu Temple Holds its Relic Festivity

Last Saturday with the support of METROPOL Group a festivity of Buddhist relic Zandan Zhuu was held in the like-named temple in the Eravninsky District, Republic of Buryatia. The festivity is going to become a tradition.

The event started with a festive prayer ceremony held by the Head of the Eravninsky District Dambi Dambaev and the Head of Russian Buddhists Pandito Khamba Lama Damba Ayusheev in front of a large assembly of pilgrims.

The prayer was traditionally followed by Three Men Games, a national Buryat contest open for everyone wishing to compete in ethnic-style wrestling, archery, and horseracing. The afternoon program included a folk music concert for all pilgrims attending the festivity.

According to the legend -Buddhist relic Zandan Zhuu is a sandal statue of the Buddha carved. It is more than 2500 years old and was brought by Sorges Lama Egituyskogo datsan Combo-Dorjo Erdyneevym in the last century from China. For a long time the statue was held in the museum of History in Buryatia. The sandal Buddha was returned to the Egituyskogo datsan in 1991. In July 2008 the opening of the temple of Zandan Zhuu was held with the participation of METROPOL Group.
