Russian Boxer Alexander Bakhtin Defends World Champion Title in Fight with Filipino Raleigh Gasquet in Varshavka SKY

On 18 September, the Baikal Fight – an IBO boxing tournament – took place in the Moscow Center of Martial Arts in the “Varshavka SKY” center.  Russia’s Alexander Bakhtin confirmed his title of the best boxer in junior featherweight (to 55.3 kg).  METROPOL Group of Companies was the organizer of the fight.

Alexander Bakhtin kept the advantage throughout all 12 rounds of the fight. At the end of the fight the referees declared a unanimous victory of the Russian national with a score of: 118:111, 119:110, 118:110.
The Baikal Fight was the thirtieth success of the 30 year old Alexander Bakhtin, who has not had a single defeat (11 of his fights ended with a knockout). Russian boxer had been prepared for the fight under the guidance of coach Alexander Zimin — winner of the “Golden Ring” and the best coach in the past 20 years, according to the Professional Boxing Federation of Russia.

The 23 year old Philippine boxer Raleigh Gasquet has 22 professional ring fights, with 19 wins (5 knockouts). The defeat of the Baikal Fight was the third in his career.
The famous American Referee Steve Smuger was the chief referee of the fight for the world champion title according to IBO. Within the Baikal Fight show in Irkutsk, the Igor Mikhalkin vs. Joey Vegas fight for the silver in the WBC was also organized. The tournament was also attended by the current European champion Denis Shafikov and Eduard Troyanovsky.

At the initiative of the Baikal Fight organizers, all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and will be used for the landscaping of the lake shore and cleaning its banks.
During the show, another significant and long-awaited event has taken place – in between rounds, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, Anatoly Lekhatinov announced that one of the streets of the capital of Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, will be named after great countryman, athlete boxer, and the first Olympic champion of the USSR in boxing V.K. Safronov. Vladimir Konstantinovich Safronov made the history of the national sport as a boxer, who won the first Olympic gold medal in 1956 in Melbourne.
