IFC METROPOL Japanese Office Representative Kenzi Shugekawa was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun
IFC METROPOL Tokyo Office Representative Kenzi Shugekawa was
awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 3rd Class (Gold Rays with Neck
Ribbon), during a solemn ceremony held in the residence of the
prime minister of Japan on April 13, 2009.
According to the official presentation, the order was awarded for
Kenzi Shugekawa’s longstanding merit in state service, including in
his capacity as deputy of Japan’s upper chamber of
parliament. After the awards ceremony, Kenzi Shugekawa was
received in the Imperial Palace by the Emperor Akihito of Japan,
who personally expressed his gratitude for Kenzi Shugekawa’s
substantial contribution to the country’s development. Reference
The Order of the Rising Sun is the second-most prestigious Japanese
decoration after the Order of the Chrysanthemum. It was
created on April 10, 1875 by decree of the Council of State.
The order has eight classes (with 1st Class being the
highest). It is awarded for both military as well as civil
merit.
The first Russian, and one of the first Europeans, to receive the
Order of the Rising Sun was Rear Admiral Vsevolod Fyodorovich
Rudnev, who was captain of the cruiser Varyag.
