METROPOL Group delegation headed by Mikhail Slipenchuk takes part in MIPIM-2010 International Investment Exhibition
A delegation from METROPOL Group headed by Mikhail Slipenchuk is
taking part in the 21st MIPIM-2010 International Investment
Exhibition, the grand opening of which took place on March 16, 2010
at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. MIPIM-2010 is the
largest, most authoritative and representative exposition forum in
Europe. This event will play an important role in strengthening
Russo-French relations within the framework of the “The Year of
Russia in France.”
METROPOL Group will present two major development projects at the
exhibition: Metropolia and St. Mark’s Island.
The master plan of the Metropolia complex will be presented on
March 17 as part of the united stand of the City of Moscow, the
grand opening of which took place on March 16. The ceremony was
attended by Vladimir Resin, the First Deputy Mayor of Moscow,
Head of the Moscow Building Complex and head of the city’s
delegation.
The St. Mark’s Island project will be presented on March 17 as part
of the stand of the government of Montenegro. The presentation will
be attended by Branimir Gvozdenovich, Montenegro’s Territorial
Planning and Environment Minister.
Background
St. Mark’s Island
Measuring 33 hectares, St. Mark’s Island is located in the Tivat
portion of the Bay of Kotor on the Adriatic Sea. Tivat Bay is a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. The average temperature is 9°C in
winter and 24°C in summer. It has more than 2,500 sunny hours per
year. The vegetation is typical for the Mediterranean, with
subtropical shrubs, olive and cypress groves. It has many secluded
coves with perfectly clear water and pristine beaches, surrounded
by picturesque slopes.
On April 20, 2007, METROPOL Group acquired Putnik, Serbia’s oldest
travel agency, one of the main assets of which is the Island of St.
Mark. METROPOL is currently working on a global project to promote
tourism in Serbia and Montenegro.
There are plans to create a unique luxury resort on the Island of
St. Mark. All the facilities will be constructed in accordance with
the highest international standards. It amounts to the de facto
creation of Europe’s first Class 6* island resort.
The plan includes private luxury villas, apartments and a hotel as
well as ultra modern restaurants, bars, cafes, boutiques of
prestigious brands, a yacht club and spas.
The company is committed to preserving the natural environment of
the island as much as possible. The latest environmentally sound
technologies will be used in the construction and future operation
of the resort, and all the vehicles will be electric.
The company’s main partner in the project is Singapore’s Banyan
Tree, a leading global management company and designer of
premium-class resorts, hotels and spas. Also working on the project
is the well-known British company Savills (project coordinator and
sales consultant), Woods Bagot (master architect of the project),
and ARUP (project engineer).
The Metropolia Complex
A new ultramodern multifunctional complex called Metropolia, a
symbiosis of business, advanced technologies and a unique
environmental space, is to be built in just 7-8 years on the
21-hectare former site of the Moskvich automobile plant at the
intersection of Volgograd Avenue and the Third Ring Road.
Metropolia will feature 700,000 m² of Class A office space, 80,000
m² of commercial space, 80,000 m² of suites, 40,000 m² of 3- and
4-star hotel space and a whole parking area with 15,000 spaces. The
complex will be surrounded by a natural park.
The master plan for the complex was developed by the Japanese
company Nikken Sekkei, one of the world’s largest architectural and
engineering companies. Founded in 1900, Nikken Sekkei has designed
more than 20,000 facilities. Metropolia is the company’s first
large project in Russia. Modern symbiotic and energy-saving
technologies, environmentally friendly materials, unique
ventilation systems and engineering solutions—all of these things
are embodied in the Metropolia project.
The central tower of Metropolia will be about 120 meters tall. The
tower and 11 other buildings will be arranged in a spiral, forming
a single space which, like a lotus flower, opens to the east,
toward the rising sun.
The project will end up costing about $4 billion.
The main consultant on the project is CB Richard Ellis, a leading
global consulting firm.
The Group includes six battery plants and business units developing and introducing new technologies, and distributing products.
